Arrange a funeral > Arranging the day > Funeral catering

A function is often organised to take place immediately after the funeral. This is usually a social event where the deceased can be remembered with fondness in a relaxed environment. This is sometimes called a purvey, a wake or a funeral tea. If there are funeral limousines we would arrange a final drop-off at this function. The client would usually arrange return transport themselves.

Catering arrangements is something which is discussed when the funeral director meets with the client. We do not have venue we specifically work with, this is very much arranged on the client’s instruction. We can of course provide guidance on local venues.

If a hotel, restaurant or bar is chosen the funeral director can assist with making the booking on behalf of the client. Sometimes a social club is chosen and usually this booking would need to be made through a club member. Clubs do have different policies on this and it would be best discussed with the funeral director to find out individual requirements. In order to make any booking however we would usually need an estimate of expected numbers.

It is also necessary to consider menu options. These vary depending on the venue, but in most cases there would be the choice to have a buffet style event or a served meal with options for one, two or three courses. We would usually expect tea and coffee to be served and there is also the option to have welcome drink served on arrival.

Sometimes the venue and the catering needs to be booked separately. We can assist with arranging caterers if necessary.

Payment policies vary depending on the venue selected. The funeral director will provide guidance on this at the arrangement meeting.
